DH is gong away next Friday to spend Friday night with MIL. Sunday is DS an DD's preschool orientation. This will be DS's 4th year at the school (he started in their 18 month program) and DD's first year. There are all new teachers and a new director. We have NEVER been to an orientation yet. DS's first year SIL passed away and we were in OH (not MIL's fault). Year 2, MIL specifically schedules SIL's unveiling for the same weekend. Year 3, FIL had passed away the previous Dec and MIL schedules his unveiling for the same weekend. So, this year, MIL is sad and asked DH to spend the weekend with her. DH is all she has left so he is going (grumbling about missing work and the work he has waiting at home....). So, here I am, taking DS and DD to their very first preschool orientation alone. I know I can do it, it just seems that something happens every year the weekend before school begins that revolves around MIL (totally not being pissy about SIL and FIL, just that MIL pulls this stuff and expects DH to come running, which he does. Then I get the flak about how stressed out he is. Makes our lives oh so nice.....).
