Default Is it weird to go to the movies alone?

Settle a debate with dh and I. Yesterday I announced that I was going to the movies alone and dh said that was really odd. Put aside that it was Valentine's Day because I would have done it regardless of the holiday- I just wanted some alone time. We don't celebrate Valentine's Day either.

I don't think it's odd at all. He asked if anyone else was there alone, except for scary old guys. Well, no. I can't think of many times I have seen people at the movies on there own during the times I usually go. But, I still think it's ok.

What do you think? Also, Whether you think it is weird or not, would you go to the movies alone?

I've done it before. Mostly when I was single, but a couple times after I married.

You're not supposed to talk during it, so why should it matter?

Really, if I want to see a movie, why should I wait until I find someone else who wants to see it too? And for DH to go, too, that means an extra ticket plus a babysitter cost. If it's not something he wants to see, it is a lot of extra money just to not be alone.

    Not weird!

I don't think it's weird to go to the movies alone. I used to do it before kids. Of course, out of my insecurity, I made sure I looked cute going. But I know a few ppl who would not be caught dead in the theatre by themselves.

I don't think it's weird at all. In fact, I've been dying to go and just SIT and pick the movie myself and not care what anyone else had to say about it. But the movies out/timing has not allowed me to do it - yet.

You're just fine. Plus I haven't ever surveyed the movie crowd to see who was there alone!

I used to go to the movies alone all the time pre-kids. When I lived in NYC there was a $2 theater I went to all the time (perfect way to spend a couple of hours during a period of unemployment). Even now there are movies that I want to see that DH does not, so occasionally I'll go without him. On Christmas DH kindly took the boys to see Alvin and the Chipmunks while I took the baby to Sherlock Holmes.

I also like going to museums by myself, so I can enjoy the exhibits at my own pace.

DH and I have both been to the movies alone and love it. We usually do it when one of us really wants to see a movie in the theater and the other isn't really interested in the movie. The last one I went to by myself was Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince. Its really nice not having to worry about getting a sitter too.

Not at all....I prefer going with a friend or DH but would totally go alone if no one else wanted to. Movies are so expensive that it is a waste to drag another person along if they aren't interested, ykwim? If I was going alone I would try to make an afternoon matinee since it is usually so much emptier and have fun.

So far, so good. I wonder if men feel differently about it than women. It was wonderful to see what I wanted to see. The first movie I wanted to see was sold out so I picked one (The Blind Side) that I really wanted to see but was content to wait for DVD since dh wasn't into it.

For all the reasons stated above, I think it is totally fine to go to the movies alone! I have done it too.

When I was single, my other single friends and I had debates about this (as well as going out to eat alone). I traveled for work and frequently found myself with a little free time in strange cities, so I got used to sightseeing alone, and then finally got up the courage to go to the movies alone. It was liberating once I found I could do it
