Since one just does not simply walk into Mordor, I say we form a conga line and dance our way in.
Excuse me, are you in a play?

i must be the only one that doesn't think this is *that* bad, considering what you hear what other kids are doing at that age. it seems fairly innocent to me, all about dance moves, not being sexual. the scene in "Little Miss Sunshine" comes to mind (where the girl performs those moves her grandfather taught her).

I wish they were wearing less sexual outfits, but I don't have a problem with the dance moves. I am concerned about pedophiles taking advantage of these situations, but I don't think that young girls simply moving their bodies this way is sexual - dressing them this way makes it so for me. I would have had a ball in this kind of class as a kid & I wasn't sexualized at all at that age. It would have just been fun.

This video has been on my mind all morning and I truly believe that if I saw a photo of my daughter in an outfit like that with what amounts to child size lingerie and thigh high stockings on I would be prosecuting someone. It looks like child pornography. I just cannot see a little girl dressed up like that and think it's okay. The second set of outfits isn't as bad in the sense that it looks more like a bathing suit, but the sheer thigh high stockings with bows are lingerie. And lingerie on a 7 year old or a 9 year old just doesn't sit well. At all.

The choreography is so sexual, whether the girls are aware of it or not. I don't for a minute think the girls are dancing that way to be sexual. It pains me, though, to think that an adult taught those gyrations and moves to them and that other adults were okay with it and are encouraging it. To me, regardless of the intent of the children, many of those dance moves (even if the girls were wearing burlap sacks instead of their costumes) are sexual.

I think LMS dance - a parody of sexualized pagent children - is actually really tame in comparison. Though probably partly because the character isn't actually a trained/talented dancer like the kids in the youtube video. And her stripper-inspired outfit is strangely MORE age appropriate and show less skin than the real kids' outfits. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CthB71GqYa0 (dancing starts at about :36 seconds).

I like the Pussycat Dolls "burlesque-based" (aka stripper) dancing but I'd not want a seven year old WATCHING their videos, much less emulating them.
It was just on GMA. They kept talking about how inappropriate it is while showing the video over and over again!
    That's gross.

Ugh. IMO, the first wrong step was having them dance to that song. I don't think little girls should be performing to music like that. When I was a little girl in dance class we performed to A Spoon Full of Sugar and Macho Macho Duck. My mom's biggest concern was how much blue eye shadow they put on me. My nieces (6 and 9) are in dance class and every year I cringe watching their shows. You can't tell the difference between the little girls' numbers and the high school girls' number accept for the height difference. The dance moves, music, and costumes are all basically the same and way too mature for young girls.

like many others I find this quite appalling! I wasn't going to watch the video but then saw it when flipping through channels and was deeply saddened. IMO, the problem was the dance moves (hip thrusts, bending over, booty shakin) paired with the outfits. The problem with the outfits isn't neccesarily that they show skin but that they are very sexually suggestive. It doesn't matter to me that there are tights or stocking material and this in no way compares to the Jasmine costume because I'm sure (or i'd hope) Jasmine isn't hip thrusting, etc. Talk about a complete lack of judgement from the adults involved...and the wild cheering was creeping me out. Way way way too much IMO!

WOW... incredible. Those little girls can DANCE! Their parents have to be the ones to monitor the costumes they wear (clearly they didn't mind) and the music they are dancing to. That song is in the Squeakquel/ Alvin and the Chimpmunks 2. The competition host could also put some regulations on what is appropriate attire. I don't mind the dancing... the girls probably enjoyed it and it showcases their ability but the outfits could have been done more tastefully.

There are plenty of cheer competition costumes that show off midrifs etc. The girls are flying through the air and doing flips showing off their hot pants under their short skirts. It's just the way it is and I bet a lot of the other outfits at that dance competition were similar. They have to do something to make themselves stand out .... It worked didn't it?!
