Default Can you convert a lap belt to a shoulder belt?

We have an older car that has 2 shoulder seat belts in the back seat (left & right side), but the middle seat in the back is just a lap belt.

Is there a way to convert a lap belt to a shoulder belt? It would be nice to have that extra seat for one of the kids to use. It's basically un-usable as a lap belt, right?

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

I don't know if it's possible to convert it, but you can use a lapbelt with a carseat with a harness. If it has a tether spot, you can also use it with the RideSafer vest. You can't use it for just a person or a booster seat.

Here is a solution, but I would worry about the lack of a head rest in taller kids.

You can absolutely use a lap belt to install a harnessed seat.
