Default What socks with dress pants and flats in winter?

If you're wearing dress pants and flats in the winter, what socks would you wear with them? Are thin socks okay? Is nylons still out? I think no socks would look strange in winter up north here, and also too cold.

My sister needs some help with dressing for work for her new job in NYC. She's asking me and I have no clue since I haven't worked for 6 years now.

    Thanks!

When I worked, I wore those black nylon kneehighs made of opaque tights material. So thicker than a nyon, but much thinner than a sock.

I do tan knee highs or plain black knee highs made of tight material.

With loafers or ankle boots, I'd probably wear trouser socks. Like these:

With ballet flats, I think black knee highs hose/tights would work, depending on shoe color of course.

I don't wear loafers but I wear ballet flats. I don't care if nylons are out and I wear nude knee highs with them.
