Default Fisher & Paykel washer/dryer experience?

Anyone have any experience with Fisher & Paykel washers/dryers? Our 17 year old Amana set is on it's last leg - and we've just had the dryer repaired - so we know the time is short.

We stopped at the local mom/pop furniture appliance store over the weekend to start the process of looking and the salesman there was very big on the Fisher & Paykel brand. This place also carries Electrolux, Bosch, Maytag, Whirlpool and several other brands.

We've looked at the front loaders out there and my wife can't get over the idea of buying "furniture" (pedestals) for our laundry units - and I have to agree a little - $150-300 for a stinking drawer to put your washer/dryer on is just stupid beyond belief. That's part of what's drawing us to the "traditional" style of the Fisher & Paykel.

Just curious if anyone has had any experience - bad or good - with the Fisher & Paykel brands. Thanks!

No experience with F&P (although I remember reading about $$ repairs when we were shopping a few years ago) but have you considered skipping the pedestals completely? We couldn't commit to the extra expense and haven't yet experienced the luxury of pedestals.... our clothes still get clean without them though!

Our friends have a fisher paykel dryer that they really like. They have had it for about a year now. I had never heard of the brand until they bought it. I believe theirs was an open box special at either home depot or lowes so they got a great deal on it.

We have had an F&P washer for about 8 years now. I love it very, very much. The best part is that the spin cycle is sooooooooo thorough that it leaves the clothes very dry. I always forget about this until I use someone else's washer!!

Ours is an older model of this one:

We did have an issue with a sensor about 2 years ago. It was a little frustrating because it is not a well known brand and many repairmen are not familiar with it. We had a repair person out who was useless. We ended up getting our money back, DH called the repair hotline, ordered the part and did the repair himself.

We just have a super basic Maytag dryer. We don't buy sets. Dryers are super simple and as long as it has a moisture sensor and a timer, I don't really care about any other setting.

We got ours in 2005 & except for me overloading it once with a king size comforter we haven't had any problems.

However, when I did have the above mentioned user error I HAD to fiix it myself because there were no repair people anywhere near me... F&P and Lowe's were less than helpful. I would make sure that the appliance place is prepared to service F&P.

We also got a Maytag dryer. I really love my washer - the spin cycle is great & it is supposed to be the most efficient top loader on the market. The wash cycle isn't too long (unlike my sister's LG front loader).
    HTH!
