Default Night time PT-initiate or wait?

DD1 (3.5yo) has been daytime pt'd for 6mos now. She still wears a pull up for nap and night time. She's a very deep sleeper and doesn't wake to go to the bathroom but I do think an overly wet pull up will wake her most mornings but at that point her bladder is already empty. Her nap is usually 1-2hrs long and she's about 50/50 on waking up with a dry pull up.

Just this week she has started to talk about wanting to wear undies for nap and bedtime. We stayed at a friend's house for New Year's and they have a 4yo who is night trained and I think she wants to be like her friend.

I know a lot of people say that night time PT is more about physical readiness than anything else. So do I just keep encouraging her but still keep using pull ups until I notice that she's dry more often than not? Do we switch to unders, double bag her mattress and cross our fingers that we won't be doing tons of laundry for weeks on end? What did you do?

I told DD2, 5 mornings with a dry pullup and you can have panties overnight!

Of course, she's nearly 5.5yo and still in pullups (actually UnderJams now), so you don't want to listen to me. <sigh>

I have a 6 yr old DS and 3.5 yr old DD. Neither is night trained. DS can go 5 nights dry and then explodes. His deal is now 7 nights dry and he can wear underwear. We have gone through times with goodnites where he wets pretty severly every single night for over a week at a time. then we have dry spells for awhile. DS's bed has a waterproof mattress pad, fitted sheet, 2 waterproof pads (to cover the entire length) another fitted sheet. DS just isn't ready yet.

DD wets in her pull up every single night. She has been pt'd since age 2.5. Since then she has had 1 dry night. Her bed is also double fitted sheets with waterproof pads underneath each sheet. She also wears a diaper doubler (she is in a sm/med goodnite, but the lg underjams are still to big. I normally have to wash her linen 2-3 times a week.

I say to just wait it out. You can't really force night potty training.

Yup, same here. About a year ago DS REALLY wanted to lose the pullups at night so we switched to training pants with a supposedly waterproof cover that would feel more like underpants. It was a dismal failure and after a week of doing laundry every night we went back to pullups. Now the deal is if he can keep the pullups dry for a week he can wear underpants. He's never even been close. We just keep telling him it's normal (which it is) and that lots of kids his age wear pullups (they do).

I am in the don't push it camp. Some kids are just dry and others aren't. My mom said I was dry at night by 3, but both my brother and sister wore diapers at night for a long time. DD1 is 4/1/2 and in Under Jams at night and we've told her 8 dry pull ups and she gets a treat from Target, but I think she has had three dry nights in the 6 mos. since I told her that. I chose 8 because that is what a friend chose, if she gets close to 5 though all in a row I'll most likely give in. Most of the time she doesn't wear one for naping though.

I didn't attempt to night train. Can you really even do that? I just waited until DD was dry several nights in a row and then gave it a shot and she was dry from then on out for the most part. We did have a spell about a month ago where she wet a few times, but then after a few nights in pull ups she went back to being dry.

I'd wait as long as possible to ditch diapers at night.

Thanks all for confirming what I suspected...to just wait it out. We have a few friends who had success with going cold turkey to unders and waking their kid up at least once during the night and they all "claimed" that they only had to do the night waking a week or so and then their kid was night trained. So it got me wondering if DH and I are lazy for just sticking her in a pull up each night.

Oh and can you all tell me the difference between a pull up, goodnights, and under jams?
