A friend is getting married later this year and I was browsing her registry this morning. How far ahead is too early to send a gift? The wedding is not until October. I'd order and have it shipped directly to her.

Not sure what proper etiquette says, but IMO a gift sent this early would be considered more of an engagement gift. She probably hasn't even had a bridal shower yet. I would send it after the wedding or sometime very close to it.

I would usually wait until the wedding invitation comes out - so usually 6 weeks or so before the wedding? I think PP is correct that if you sent it now it might be viewed as an engagement gift.

I would send it when I received an invitation. Or if I weren't receiving an invitation, but wanted to send a gift, I would send it about a month before the wedding.

I'd wait because they might change their mind on what they register for. I send one after I get the invitation.

I didn't think about an engagement gift. I'll wait. I'm just trying to budget for the wedding and figured getting the gift out of the way would be good before the travel expenses later. I was hoping I could send it a few months early, but I'll wait until late summer.
