Default Walkie-talkie that is appropriate for 5 year old?

I am going to a bday party for a boy turning 5 who is very into electronics. I am thinking of getting him some walkie-talkies, but am not sure about age appropriateness. Would something like these be ok? http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-TalkA...g_tr_912324_12 Or should I find child-specific ones?

Don't get a toy walkie talkie. They don't work as well as the real ones.

My 5yo DS just got one and he loooooooves it. On weekend nights, he gives one to DD and they talk to each other before falling asleep.

Yeah, we had toy ones and they were a total joke (a gift from someone). DS1 eventually bought his own from Home Depot and they are still going strong about 2 years later.

Add me to the list of "don't buy a toy walkie-talkie" - total waste of money. Spend a little more on a basic "real" walkie-talkie and you won't regret it. Our kids have figured out that they can even talk to the neighbor boys if they all set them on the same channel
