Sorry you are struggling with this. I can imagine how frustrating it is. IMO I would rather go see a GI specialist or allergist first before having (possibly unecessary) surgery.

That was my thought too. My follow up with my GP is at the end of Sept. By that point I will have done the full 6wk trial of Prilosec and been on BCP for 3 weeks. I'll push for either more testing or a referral or both. Other than the upper GI and the pelvic u/s for the cyst, we haven't done any other diagnostics.

Gluten free since Nov '11 after non-celiac gluten sensitive diagnosis. Have had great improvement or total elimination of: migraines, bloating/distention, heartburn, cystic acne, canker sores, bleeding gums, eczema on elbows, dry skin and scalp, muscle cramps, PMS, hair loss, heart palpitations, fatigue. I'm amazed.

I agree with the pp who said to go to a gi or allergellist first. Imo, your ob is overstepping his boundaries wanting to do a lap on you, esp since it may not even involve his specialty (gyno stuff) AND ob's have the least surgical training out of all surgeons to bwgin with, so I'd avoid them for surgery unless it is very specific to their specialty.

I developed irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) about 7 years ago after a bad stomach bug. It definitely could cause bloating and distension. When I am having a flare up, I have had people ask if I was pregnant (even though I was wearing a size 2). Nice. Before obtaining an IBS diagnosis, they had to rule out more serious conditions by doing a colonoscopy and other tests (through my GI specialist). I also have a history of ovarian cysts, which complicated the issue. I hope that you find answers/relief soon.
