    Default wasted head of lettuce

I bought a head of iceberg lettuce yesterday. It was solid and very green (no brown areas and crisp). I took it out this evening to cut it up for a salad and it was brown all over and mushy and slimy. I thought it was maybe a layer or two, but it was all of the way through. I thought about keeping it and taking it back, but just decided to pitch it. Not a huge deal in the big scheme of things, but still annoying. Now I'm not sure I even want to buy lettuce from this particular store again.
