Default How wide is your dining room (for narrow rooms)?

We are putting in bookcases in our dining room which will take a few inches of space from the room (they will be set between two columns that already take up some space). The room doesn't have any furniture yet and is already not that big, and I'm wondering what kind of furniture will go in there and how crowded it will feel with furniture.

The room, after the bookcases are in, will be about 12'8" wide. It is about the same length, but it feels a little longer because of an adjacent hallway past the columns which makes it feel like there is more room even though furniture wouldn't be put in the hallway area.

We have a decent sized breakfast nook that has a large table, so the dining room doesn't have to have a big table. Anyone have dining rooms with similar dimensions? How crowded does it feel?

In our last house our dining room was 10 feet wide. There were floor to ceiling windows on two sides and the other two sides were open so it didn't feel small.
There was no need to walk through the dining room to get somewhere else so it was no biggie.
    I think you'll be fine.

We are actually using our breakfast nook as a dining room since it's quite a large breakfast nook - width-wise it's about 12 feet. Length is longer. We have our big extension dining table in there. It can be tight when the table is full of guests, but it totally works.

One thing I would consider - if you haven't gotten furniture yet buy lower profile chairs with lower backs - it will give the illusion of more elbow room as people are getting to their seats. We have high-backed leather parsons chairs and I really want to replace them with low-back chairs because the high backs makes me feel like I have to elbow them out of the way to get around the table.
