Default Infant head positioners/cushions - Bad right?

Considering pairing a head support type cusion with a swing or FP Rock and Play to use as a sort of bassinet.

I prefer to have the babies sleeping in their cribs (plus DH is super opposed to co-sleeping due to paranoia), so I get up, nurse in the room and then do a lot of walking and reading and trying to get them back to sleep . . . but I recall with DD that it was always around the 1 am/3 am feeding that I couldn't get her to fall asleep at all and those first few months are so hard. It wasn't the end of the world b/c at the time we had borrowed a travel swing (it was soft) and I would use that to help get her to sleep when I was desperate. Since I am going back to work with this one, I feel like I will have more desperate need in the wee hours.

Now all I will have at my disposal is a great swing (Fisher Price Aquarium one) with a really hard seat. I was thinking I could buy the Snuzzler or the Boppy Noggin Nest or something and put it in there to prevent against flat spots. I also thought about buying the fisher price rock n play to use as a sort of bassinet.

The other reason why I'm thinking about this is that DH is going to be home on his own with the kids for about 4-5 weeks and he doesn't do the babywearing like I do. I'm sure DS is going to be in these toys a little more than he would be with me. I am worried about flat spots.

But I thought I remembered hearing/reading that these sorts of things were bad/dangerous to use with babies. Am I making this up?

Also, would not be using this in the crib.

I've heard many times not to use that type of thing in car seats, the reason being that those can slip under the baby's head and push the neck down, blocking/restricting the airway. It's think the same might be a risk in a swing, given that there's movement, so the baby's head could shift.

I would invest in a cradle swing instead - very cushy for baby but positions them well. If you got an aquarium swing then it is likely 5+ years old (at least aquarium was the line out when my DS was born and he just turned 6). Their newer ones are super nice and not hard at all.

So after googling I found that yes, they are bad. I don't know why I did it - I knew I would see something that would upset me which was why I asked on here. I'm not even going to link to what is probably the world's most heartbreaking site which said that the sleep positioners are bad. I did read another site saying the noggin nest was okay but not for sleeping and now I feel horrific for even thinking about this. Oh the joys of being 38 weeks pregnant.

Actually, we do have a cradle swing - http://reviews.fisher-price.com/6194/31332/reviews.htm Maybe I will just use that. More than likely I will just be too afraid to use anything.

I guess these things come and go so quickly. I always felt like it was a hard surface but maybe that is just a normal surface. So hard to keep this stuff straight.

We have that exact cradle swing and it was plenty soft for my DS - the actual shell of the seat is hard plastic but the cushion is very comfortable. He took plenty of naps in that swing as a baby .

I love our Rock and Play. We do use it like a bassinet... our little one would sleep for 3-4 hours in the crib but would sleep 6+ hours in the Rock and Play. We started using it every night once we figured that out! It's great for babies that have reflux and need to sleep sitting up at an angle. It is light so its easy to move it from room to room. It folds flat in an instant making it easier to transport instead of a pack 'n play when the baby was little.

My youngest, now almost seven months, has slept every single night (and most naps) in our cradle swing. He has bad reflux, and has a super hard time laying flat. The recline on the cradle swing is wonderful, and we have had no issues with head flopping of any kind. And like a PP said, it is super cozy and padded. I think more babies are swing sleepers than we realize.
