Default We are home - update in 153: DS Admitted into Hospital

Our 12 year old DS was admitted into the children's hospital after he grew progressively weak, could not walk, had very slurred speech, and said that his brain was not working right (confused, groggy, could not think straight). He had difficulty answering basic questions. They have ordered lots of blood work and are withholding food/drink for now (not sure why).

His blood work last week suggested that he has a mitochondrial disorder, fatty acid oxidation (genetic problem that can be triggered due to infection such as Lyme). Essentially, when your body runs out of glucose, it normally uses fat. With FOD, the body cannot metabolize the fat properly, leading to a crash. I am not sure if this is what is going on.

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. These setbacks are so incredibly painful.

Oh, Melbel, I am so sorry. Healing thoughts for your sweet boy. Poor kiddo, no one should have to go through what he has.

Oh my goodness, Melbel. Your family has had more than its share of ailments and health issues! Will certainly be praying for him and for all of you...that you get answers to some of your questions and that the doctors are able to help you find livable solutions to these challenges. Also praying for strength and energy...I can only imagine how draining (emotionally and physically) all this must be.
