Default how much space do you need around a swingset?

We have a pretty small space where we could put a swingset. I am wondering how much room we need around the swingset. 2 sides will have a lot of room around it, but 2 sides will not. The space is like a long rectangle. I was thinking something like this would work

with maybe just one swing instead of 2. Would we need that muchroom around the sides?

    thanks, Jenn

You need distance out from the swings to be twice the height of the swings.

I think the rule is 6' from the farthest point the swings go out. IME, you need the room around it for them to run, fall down, etc.

    From the AAP:
"The playground should have safety-tested mats or loose-fill materials (shredded rubber, sand, wood chips, or bark) maintained to a depth of at least 9 inches (6 inches for shredded rubber). The protective surface should be installed at least 6 feet (more for swings and slides) in all directions from the equipment."
