    Default Buying Life Insurance

Now that my divorce is final, one of the stipulations (and of course the smart thing) is to get life insurance for me.

Is it best to go with someone like State Farm (I have my auto and home with them)...I got a quote of 68.00 a month for a 20 year term policy for 250K.

I do not have any policies from work as I work contract work.

What are some other good companies to look at? Thanks.

I would say that is high unless you have underlying medical conditions. For instance upon signing up for new benefits I could get 250k of additional life no med exam for $10 a month for a frame of reference.

Have you tried inputting your info into something like select quote?

Do you belong to any professional organizations? The bulk of mine and DH's life insurance is through one of his professional orgs. There rates were MUCH better than even what I could get through the federal government.

Agree with pp. That is high if there isn't a specific reason. We pay under that for a much higher amount and 30 year term. Use select quote or an insurance broker/independent agent to get quotes from several different places rather than having to call around.

That is a bit high, I'd shop around. I believe ours are with American General.

DH has a million dollar policy for under $600/year. He is early 30s and does not smoke, is not obese, does not have any health issues. I think it is 30 year.

Ours is through USAA and we pay around $40/month each for $500,000, 30 year term. We are in late 30s, non-smokers, no health problems.

My DH and pay about $40 a month for $500K through ModernWoodman. We get some additional benefits besides just the life insurance because it's a fraternal organization, so the complete benefits made it a better deal for us.
