Radian RXT for a 5 year old?

I'm trying to get 3 across in my JX. I ordered an RXT but DD1 only has 3 to 4 inches before her shoulders will hit the head wings. It seems strange though, that a seat designed to go to 120 lbs/57" would be outgrown because of the head wings.

So does this actually become a problem? Or is it fine for the kid?

I think torso growth is something like 1" per year. Whatever it is, it doesn't correlate to standing height growth if that makes sense.

I just looked it up on the car seat forum and it's usually 3 inches of overall growth equals 1 inch of torso - so you should have three to four more years in the Radian!

My son will be 6 in October and he uses a Radian RXT.

A lot of kids are too tall for the harness at anywhere from 5-6 years old, petite/short torsoed kids can last till 7-8 in the harness, and yeah, the headwings are quite low and cause it to be ougrown as a booster sooner. Still a great 'this is the center of the car seat, period, the kid who fits there, sits there', and you'll get eons of use out of it with various other seats on either side (high height and weight limits are such a scam on most seats... it would be nice if more went the Britax route and gave shoulder height guidelines)

That's an interesting way to look at it. We could start my oldest there and move her in a year when she outgrows it.

Do you know why the R120 is so hard to get? It's out of stock everywhere.

They are revamping their whole product lineup, and are about 6 months late to market with the new stuff, so stock is kind of weird...
