Washington DC burbs, so HCOL, but not NYC prices.

Before younger DD was in elementary school, we paid $1150 a month for full time care (7:30 AM - 6 PM). Infant care was $1450 at the time, toddler care was $1350.

Until this year my kids went to after care and I paid $350 a month per kid.

This summer I had a college nanny and she charged me $100/day for up to 10 hours of care. I am now paying her $100 a week for after care for younger DD. As a side benefit, she's also home for older DD too although she doesn't need "care". She's here from 3:15 - 5:30, 4 days a week. (I telework one day a week.)
Beth, mom to older DD (8/01) and younger DD (10/06) and always missing Leah (4/22 - 5/1/05)

HCOL. DD2 goes to afterschool care 2x/week for only 2 hours and 40 mins each time. She's in half day Kinder and she stays until DD1 gets out, so my mom only needs to go to school once for pick-up. We pay $220/mo.

MCOL area. We have a FT nanny for two kids, which runs about $3000/month. For two kids, most PT nannies around here will charge $15-25/hour.

Holy cow! I am in TX as well but the sitter/nanny rates are relatively low i guess. our recent sitter (teacher from DC's school, in her 40s) requested $10/hr for sitting (my 2 kids). we gave her a heavy tip!

ANyway, i think we are in relatively low COL area. My kids go to a relatively expensive, nice daycare with a great curriculum, etc. Earlier in the year we were paying $1800 a month for 2 kids..i think it is a lower now that DS is in junior K and dd is in preschool. The hours they are open are 7a-6p but they typically go 9a-6p.

Next year DS will go to K (full-day) and aftercare there is till 6:30p and is $70/week, so about $300/mo. DD will still be about $800/mo.

HCOL. Philly burbs. For two kids, school is a bit over $3000 a month. It is the most expensive school in the area by a lot but it is worth every penny. Infant care is $1775 and pre school is $1245. We will get one more price reduction for pre-k next year and kindy costs the same. Our local schools only have half day so many kids in our town go to private kindy, even with SAHM, before public first grade.

Our school is expensive but my kids have been elsewhere. Nothing comes close. Our teachers are pretty well paid, happy, been there for years, with good retirement plans. DD2's teacher, who DD1 also had, has been with the school for at least 20 years. DD1's teacher 10 years. All the teachers, 2 per classroom, have at least a BA in early childhood education. DD1's teacher is getting her masters at night.

We pay $300-400 a month depending on how many days we use per month for DD1. My mom has been getting DD2 off the bus, but she will be gone next week, so it will be $75 per week until my mom comes back. DD2's private school is only $510 per month, which I think is extremely reasonable for a good private school. We were paying $2k per month when both were in preschool.

I'm paying between $700-780 a month for both girls during the school year, a little more if I need to use drop-in care before school during the week. And probably close to $1200 during the summer. We have someone come to the house. She works 7-9 hours on Sundays and about 3 hours after school on Mondays, Tuesday and the occasional Wednesday. During the summer, she works 7-9 hours Sun-Tues.

It works for us because the local day care centers close too early and of course no one is open on Sundays.

MCOL or LCOL (how do I know?) -- we pay $190/week for DD at a center. 6:30-6:30, it includes breakfast, lunch, and snack.

HCOL area, $333/week for full time daycare. This cost is lower than it was (365) before potty training.
    My baby boy is 3!

MCOL but higher end burb. We pay $1050 a year for three day a week aftercare (2:35-6p although if DH is in town it's by 5 at the latest.) Think it's 1400 for full year, but I'm home 1 day a week and she has Hebrew School another day. This doesn't cover breaks (can pay for 'camps' at $50ish/day) or before school. If we need care on the 'other' two days we can pay by the day which is somewhat unusual but very helpful. (Any kid can use the 'day pass' so some with a SAHP may use it 3 days a year or whatever.)
