Default Finally good news from school

For those that remember we moved DD1 to a special needs school this year after having no progress at our neighborhood school the last 4 years. She has autism, apraxia, and a learning disability. We had our first IEP today after giving them 6 weeks to get to know her and what her weaknesses and strengths are. I wanted to cry happy tears for the first time instead of sad tears as I usually feel after an IEP meeting. These wonderful teachers told me they saw so much progress in just the first 6 weeks of school, they can see her potential. They see her knowing how to read and write, and speaking in full sentences. They made big goals but attainable goals that I believe they know how to teach to get her there. I still feel like her progress will be slow but for the first time there will be actual progress and I am not hearing "we are still figuring out how to teach her". Which is what I heard for 4 years. I have such more hope for her future.
This does mean we need to move next year and get our house ready to sell (that's another post) but we will make it work.

That is fantastic news, it is so frustrating to leave IEP meetings with that nagging (or sometimes overwhelming) feeling that your child just doesn't quite fit their mold.

Amazing!!! Such a great update. I completely understand about the happy tears . It is the best feeling to know that the school "gets" your child and knows how to help them reach their potential. We are in a very similar situation with DS this year and I want to jump for joy when he comes come happy and I get positive feedback from the teachers on his progress.

That's great! It can be so hard to find the right school.
