Has anyone done this? I got a really good offer from Volkswagen , but have no intentions of purchasing from them. I'm a little embarrassed to go in and do the test drive. Any BTDT ?

I haven't, but would totally do it for the right offer! You go in w/o dh, drive it, tell them how much you liked it but have to chat with dh and bring him back.
People on SD do this all the time, it seems.

What's the gift? It sounds completely un-fun to me, I can't imagine what the gift would be for me to do it. Vitamix maybe.

DH and I did this once several years ago. Neither of us was really in the market for a car at the time, though oddly he is now leasing that car! I did not like it then and still do not like it (for me -- it is a comfort/fit issue) though I drive it on occasion if I really have to.
