Our very small dog has a very small crate. He can stand up and turn around in it, but he doesn't need more room than that. It is upstairs in our room, on my side of the bed but against the wall. When he used a plastic one it was under the bed on my side.

this reminds me of a Clifford book I just read.....

We have a crate in the kitchen (right near the back door) and one in our dinning room. All hw floors here.

I wonder if you could turn the crate into an island of sorts - ie giving it a more built in appearance. Honestly, where you put it will depend on the size/layout of your house.

I'm so happy you're getting a puppy soon.

My friend had a Newfie and kept her crate in the area between the family room and the kitchen (open floor plan). I keep my puppy on the edge of the kitchen and family room as well. He just drags his little bed wherever he wants to be. But my guy is full grown at like 10 lbs!

Shep's crate is the XXL size, and it's on the corner of our livingroom. It's next to these French doors leading to the backyard, and there's a carpet pad in front. When we have a visitor dog, their crate either goes in front of the doors, or in the opposite corner. Our livingroom is hardwood floor, so we took a remnant of carpet and put it upside down, under the crate. Works well!

I will help out OP on this one. Her first Great Dane died this summer at only 4 years old.

OP, I wish you joy and laughter as you bring this sweet pup into your lives - I am sure your second Dane is loving having her there, and I know the humans are too.
