I asked this question a few years ago and got the following reply:

When phil&teds purchased Mountain Buggy in late 2009, changes had to be made to certain parts of the buggy as original molds were no longer available. Mountain Buggy still has the same mark of quality and dependable engineering the brand has always been synonymous with. The line has more owners worldwide than ever before, and has been revitalized with several new models as well. We have attempted to carry as many replacement parts for older models as possible for loyal customers, but a few changes had to be made to current models.

Sunhoods - The older sunhoods attached with a wire that went into a sunhood finder on the frame. Newer models use a C clamp that attaches directly to the frame. Pre 2010 sunhoods will NOT work on new buggies. The new hoods will fit on an older buggy however, but a new sunhood finder kit needs attached to the frame. See instructions here: https://philandteds.box.net/shared/s...ar096epc88.doc

Sun & Storm Covers - These accessories were changed in 2010 to work with the new sunhoods. When purchasing covers, it's important to purchase based off the model.

Rear Wheels - The rim, axle system, and quick release mechanism was changed for all models made in 2010 and after. Pre 2010 wheels had a quick release mechanism where wheels detached by a metal pin in the center of the rim, current models use a plastic button to detach. The current Mountain Buggy rear axle is shorter than pre 2010 models and like the rim, is not interchangeable between most models. Some models can be adapted however to take the new wheels and/or axles. Post April 2008 Urban & Urban Elite buggies have removable axles so the current wheels will also fit if the axle is changed to the current version as well. All swift buggies have removable axles so the new wheels fit the older swifts as long as the axles are changed to the new ones. Some mountain buggies do not have removable axles, we refer to these as fixed axles. Fixed axle buggies will require a pre 2010 wheel replacement. Pre 2010 wheel replacements will not be available for another 6-8 months as we are attempting to locate original molds and produce stock. These wheels will also fit the older Mountain Buggies that used to attach with tri lock knobs at the rear, the quick release sleeve will just need to be removed . Urban & Urban Elite buggies had fixed axles (un-removable) until around April 2008, so these buggies need the pre 2010 wheels. We apologize if we do not currently have stock of your models wheels as they were no longer being produced when we purchased the company in 2009. It is possible however to adapt some of the pre 2010 buggy to take the new wheels and axles with a bit of work. See instructions here: https://philandteds.box.net/shared/s...d8ag9ybx0u.doc

Frames - The pre 2010 frames used the older axle system mentioned above. They are NOT compatible with new wheels or sunhoods without a bit of work referrenced in the upgrade instructions above.

All other parts are 100% interchangeable for buggies made after 2005 including front wheels, inner tubes, outer tires, parcel trays, main seats, bumper bars, car seat adapters, handlebars, front axles, wheel bearings, liners, and all other accessories. See our web shop for available parts, accessories and further info: www.shop.mountainbuggy.com

Determining Year of Mountain Buggy (prior to 2010) Model & Serial number can be found on the back of the metal kick plate.

Model ending in -001 = Manufactured 2004 or earlier

    Model ending in -002 = Manufactured 2005 - 2007

    Model: ending in -003 = Manufactured 2008 -2009

Included is a link to how to use the new canopy on the old frame. I remember the tech saying that it wasn't all that easy, however!

    HTH!
