Default Does your school have a program for gifted students? (Elementary level)

Gifted and Talented programs are fairly rare in Massachusetts. I'm wondering what percentage of posters here go to schools with G&T programs. I'm not asking if individual poster's kids are gifted-- I'm just trying to get a sense of how unusual it is to live in a region that does not have this kind of program available.

I'd also be curious to hear if your G&T program is well regarded.

Yes. And almost all the school systems around us have some type of program.

Ours is generally well regarded, although it is not perfect.

Most districts in my area are county-wide and are very large. The fewer smaller districts in our area are the ones that don't seem to have a program.

Our school district (K-12) doesn't offer one. We're in N. Cal.

Yes. However, I haven't seen that they do much. There's no regular pull out. Just the GIEP in place to make sure they are appropriately challenged as needed. Sometimes they have field trips or other experiences but not much.

NYC suburbs (Westchester County) and there are almost no gifted programs but many of the school districts here are among the best in the country.

Yes, our county has AIG. In our school, it's a pull-out program.

We didn't have an AG program where I went to school as a child.

Yes, but at my school there aren't that many students in it (less than 10 per grade), so they don't really do anything. The gifted get put in a class with strong academic students, and that is about it.

Yes. They offer accelerated math starting in K and a contained multi-grade program for 2-5. It is generally well regarded but could be better, IMO.

The public districts do. I'm not aware of any similar programs in any of the local charter schools. Our private school does not offer one. The district I taught in has a program that now begins in pre-k. My nephews have both gone through k-12 in that district and have been in the gifted program. Our local district also has a successful program. I have quite a few friends whose children are currently in that program. It ranges from pull-out programs to self-contained classes at certain schools.

My public school district in the SF Bay Area has a day program, but no pull out for GATE. If you get into the program, you have to transfer to the school that houses the GATE classes.
