Default CURVED & wheels Magnatiles (or knock off?)

Here I am, thinking I've orchestrated an impeccable Hanukkah. Turns out, what DS2 really, really wants is Magnatiles that have curves. He must have seen this set at a friend's:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000JK...=AC_SX200_QL40

We have a lot of Magnatiles and I'm not opposed to getting more because of how much they've been used over an extended period of time.

That being said, what are the BBB opinions about alternate brands, like Playmags? Seems like there may be more options for other shapes and the wheel chassis. I know there was a thread about this but I can't find it.

    Thanks!

We have the real brand of the deluxe set and it's added a nice level to the play. We have 2 sets.

Do you have two of the deluxe? Just wondering if 1 now means another at some point.

We have 2 of the 100 sets and 1 of the deluxe set then we just added this set:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I don't feel they are quite as high quality as valtec magnatiles but they are still good quality and we are happy to have some new shapes.
There are other accessory sets as well for this brand- so look through them and see what you is the best value... Considering getting another set for the half pieces, L shapes, and windows..

There are also "ice" magnatiles that are new this year that I am drooling over but likely will not add to our collection.

ETA- I would get the stick N stacks over the deluxe- more new shapes available.

But when I do, I will look around with a wistfullness in my heart and miss the days where vibrant imaginations ran wild and there was evidence of life happening around me all the time!"

Yes. We bought one set and received another as a gift. 1 set would be fine.

We have the playmags also and they are about the same. The biggest different is the corners are put together by plastic instead of the metal rivets like the Magna tiles.

They get tons of play and only one had ever come apart.

My dd2 got the playmags train set for Hanukkah the other night and they are nice and compatible with our magna tiles as well.

The playmags are compatible but fall apart easier.
After the first piece fell apart (magnets fell out) we sold our playmags and are sticking to the real thing.

I wouldn't buy Playmags again. They are nowhere near as durable as the real thing and we had several pieces fall apart (especially the most 'fun' parts, the trailers that move).

Magformers can work with wheels etc but they are sadly not compatible with Magnatiles
