We read the Three Ninja Pigs to DS class at that age and they loved it. It's s fun twist on the three little pigs story.

Another vote for The Book With No Pictures. A poster here recommended you Google adults reading it aloud to kids to get an idea of how to read it, which I found helpful since I'm not naturally good about inflection. I even read it to DS1's third grade class - and I was afraid they'd be too old - but they HOWLED with laughter and absolutely loved it.

any of the "If You Give an (insert animal) (insert food item)" books. We have If You Give a Pig a Pancake, and If You Give a Cat a Cupcake, and I think they are fun to read.

(Why? Because the banana smilie is just so funny)
A Giraffe and a Half by Shel Silverstein was my go-to for so long! It's a bit of a tongue twister so practice reading it aloud a couple of times. (Although the kids love when you mess it up, LOL.)
