Default Anyone know anything about Van Cleef and Arpels? How is it compared to Tiffany?

So, DH said he found a pair of earrings he would like to get me for mother's day from Van Cleef and Arpels. Which is pretty amazing since he has a hard time buying me expensive jewelry. Since he knows I absolutely hate surprises, he thought he'd ask me how I felt about that idea. I'm thrilled but a little hesitant. I've heard of Van Cleef and Arpel- they are a very old, well established jewelry maker. But I'm wondering how they compare to Cartier or Tiffany. Anyone here know? Do they hold their value?

We discussed luxury jewelry here one other time. But no one mentioned this brand. http://windsorpeak.com/vbulletin/sho...iffany+cartier I don't know much about them and thought I'd start with you guys.

It's okay, but I personally prefer Harry Winston.

In my opinion, it's above Tiffany, on par with Cartier. I have a few of their pieces, and love them. I'm a big fan! They definitely hold their value.

They have beautiful pieces as I have seen their stuff at the two stores near me, but it is crazy expensive much more so than Tiffany, where a simple pair of earrings or a necklace in gold might be $500-$1000, but that $1000 won't likely get you in the door at a place like Van Cleef and Arpel.

Even in Newport Beach this is probably true, although their new Alhambra line looks a little young trending I doubt you will see it on a high school or college student even in the ritziest neighborhoods.

These are the ones he liked. What do you guys think? http://www.vancleefarpels.com/eu/en/...-earstuds.html (be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about them.)

Hmm, they are pretty but not my style. I think they would be gorgeous as drop earrings (maybe French hook?) but I don't love them as post earrings.
