Default boosters - high back or backless

Here is an article with a Britax video for why you should use high backs over backless. I admit I have a slightly hard time taking advice from someone who did this research and decided to move her just turned 4 year old into the booster.

But, the gist is the article that highbacks are safer.

I'm under the impression there is no 'actual' study data to support this. The new i-Size standards are supplanting the ECE standards, and require more side impact protection for all the new dummies they are using. This is the best webpage I could find, the more 'official' ones had way less information.... http://www.goodeggcarsafety.com/blog/what-is-isize/
I can't in any way see backless boosters as negative for older kids who benefit from the better belt fit and the potential head protection in cars with curtain airbags that fit the small female adult dummy, so I doubt they will be made illegal in i-size, just maybe the height/weight/age limits will increase on backlesses? (Which I would kind of like to see, as troublesome as it would be for very petite kids who need travel options).
