Default Skirty shorts /culottes for girls?

I got a pair of sneaky shorts from Athleta (they're shorts that look like a skirt) that I adore, and so do my girls. They want their own.

Boden calls them "culottes". Is there anywhere else to buy them? They are expensive from MB! Also, are they even practical (compared to a traditional skort)? They are definitely cooler in the hot summers here since it's fewer layers of fabric.

Culottes were also Gauchos when I was a kid.

    Old Navy has these: Culottes
    Kohl's has some: Gauchos

These look longer than the Boden ones.

To respond to your question if they are practical... They are great for keeping you cool, but might not be for doing cartwheels or something, depending on the cut. I had a pair as a child that looked similar to the Athleta skirty shorts and remember that they would not keep you 'covered' like regular shorts when I did cartwheels.

Gap has some called soft shorts. They're very popular right now, but I don't know that different stores are using the same name for the style. I've also seen them at Target.
