I grew up saying tiger. Didn't know there was a different version!
I replied upthread, but basically my grandparents told me it wasn't a nice thing to say. They were very very southern and grew up in the latter part of the Jim Crow era in Alabama. So I'm sure that's the version they used growing up, so they didn't like me saying it even with tiger.
I grew up saying tiger. I would never think twice about it being bad and absolutely let my kids say it. I never knew there was a different word before that. Maybe the bad version was a regional thing.

I never knew the original had a horrible word, either, until my husband told me. He grew up in Ireland, and as a kid they would say the "n" word version. I was flabbergasted when he told me, I guess I imagine the U.S. as unique in its prejudices sometimes, and forget how widespread it can be.

Gosh I had no idea! I grew up in TX and we always said Tiger. I would never have known that there used to be another word.
I am aware of the two versions and have long known about them but grew up with tiger in my childhood circles. I think I learned the original from my grandparents, who didn't use the n word but talked about the original version in "back when I was little..." type stories.
I don't forbid my kids from singing it but I don't encourage it or use it myself. We sing the "bubble gum, bubble gum in a dish..." on the rare occasions I need to. Once they are older I will make sure they understand the history of the song.

My kids sing it but always put a different animal in place of the tiger each time they seem to sing
