Default What Combo Seat for DS2?

It has been awhile since I asked about carseats, but I just got my reminder that DS2's convertible (EFTA) expires in December (we set reminders on our google calendar).

So now I'm in the market for a combo seat, I think. Stats are:

    DS1:
    6 yo
    shortish - 50% percentile - don't remember exact numbers
    ~44 - 46 lbs
In SecureKid 300 Combo seat harnessed in both cars
Uses bubblebum or LBB for carpool pick up.

    DS2
    4yo
    shortish - 50% percentile - don't remember exact numbers
    ~42-44 lbs
In Old style Marathon in DH's car, and EFTA in my car, FF

I have a spare SecureKid300 for 1 car, and for the immediate time being thought I'd put him in that. However, the Marathon also expires in Feb or March...so I'm thinking I should take advantage of the Babies R Us Trade in event.

Would you look at another combo seat and keep both kiddos harnessed in combos? If so, what would you recommend? Something on the narrower side is nice because we occasionally use the RideSafer vest or LBB between the SK300 and MA or EFTA when we have playdates or family visiting. DH's car is a 2012 Outback and mine is a 2004 Forester.

Would you look at just a HBB for DS1 and pass down the Combo seat to DS2?

    Other options?

Oh - budget. We'd like to stay in the $100 or less category!

    TIA!

Hmmmm... In theory I'd go with a booster for ds1, but since you need narrow, and those SK's are definitely narrow, even as a booster...that might be good. Though the Affix for the second car is a good bet at BRU, it's not skinny, but fine for only putting two kids in the back. Hmmm...one of each?

Jools can you still get the SK300? When I looked online it looks like Evenflo has changed the lineup a bit. LOVE the SK! Why just the booster for DS1? Mostly because of budget/age/duration of using the seat harnessed?

6 is usually a fine age for a booster, yeah, and it will last longer, more bang for the buck. The 300 is now the LX, though I think the one at BRU has the cheap LATCH hooks, not even the push on ones, but you are about out of LATCH weight, so just use the seatbelt to install, anyway.

Thanks Jools! I never cared much about the LATCH hooks. For some reason I've always been able to get a better install with the seatbelts anyway.....
Booster it is. Any recommendations on skinny HBB's?
