    It was in blue this summer, but we bought this http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/...ctID.328882200 as a laptop for kid use. The Signature Edition means it comes clean without a lot of junk software on it, which is very nice. It's worked well so far. Mostly it is used for homework here, but it has been taken to school a few times for robotics.

    We are looking at one from Costco for Nathan he's in 6th grade and doing a lot of computer work I will take a picture of the specs once and post them I wouldn't buy anything less than a 6 GB memory if you want this computer to ask him for several years

    Does your son have a gmail account? We use GAFE (Google Apps for Education) at our school. All of the students have a google user name and login, access to the Google Drive (docs, sheets, slides, forms, etc) with unlimited storage. They have chromebooks for $160.00 on amazon.

    GAFE is free.

    I was going to suggest a Chromebook as well. My HS teen has a Macbook at home that she uses for art (generous grandparent purchase), but she takes a Chromebook to school daily and does all of her schoolwork on it.

    Costco instore has an HP 8 gb memory the i5 intel core processor ( there is an i7 but everyone I talked with said i5 was great) 15.6 screen and 1T hard drive thats over kill but for us but it will take him into high school no problem. I'm not naive enough to know some gaming will go on so why not get a decent laptop for that too. Nathan watches a ton of youtube vids on history and other topics it was 499 but I bought the 3 yr spills and breakage plan for $69.

    I would not buy a laptop for a tween/ teen with out the 3 yr protection plan. Even the most careful kid stuff happens.

    Best Buy has a $129 Lenovo that seems decent:

    I am thinking now
    of grief, and of getting past it;
    I feel my boots
    trying to leave the ground,
    I feel my heart
    pumping hard. I want
    to think again of dangerous and noble things.
    I want to be light and frolicsome.
    I want to be improbable beautiful and afraid of nothing,
    as though I had wings.
