The downside is that the grooves of the planked tabletop can easily collect crumbs.

We have and love our Lugano table, but it seats 8 max (unless you use bench seating)--

Does the Lugano have grooves which collect crumbs? We were looking in World Market yesterday and almost all the tables we saw had planked tops which screamed out food getting trapped to me.

The Lugano has no grooves. Smooth topped. The Monroe that seats 10 is the one with grooves and planked top.

Thanks all for chiming in! I am too lazy to finish a table myself but I do appreciate all the ideas. I haven't been happy with IKEA quality for any large pieces of furniture that are heavily used, so I'm going to try to stick to Craigslist and just hope for a good deal.

The table could easily seat 10 and we have two extra chairs when we need to seat more people.
It looks much more utilitarian on the site, but is a great, large, warm table. We found the entire set (with an extra set of back up cushions still wrapped in plastic) for $900 on craigslist.
Wow, what a great deal! I'd love to get a set for under $1,000 that's decent quality. This definitely make me want to stalk Craigslist and hope something good turns up. I'm not in a hurry (though it would be nice to get one before we host the next big family event).

    Thanks again!

Kind of a modern/asymmetrical spin on a farmhouse table, with great reviews You could finish it with chairs from IKEA, they have lots of good dining chair options. CB2 does occasionally run sales so if you're not in a hurry you can wait...or if you're lucky you can snag one of those 15% off for new customers when/if it pops up.
