Default Boy's swimwear question - - no lining?

So we found boys swim bottoms we like, but they don't have the mesh lining in them? Dumb question - but how to boys wear these? Do they wear them with underwear in the water? Commando underneath? I thought that was odd, but read reviews and some people like them better for sensory kids - but no-one said if they wear them alone or not???

Yes, the liners take the place of underwear. Regular underwear would hold the water and not dry quickly.

My son prefers swimsuit with no liner but those are harder to find.

Thanks everyone - we're going to give it a try

BTW if anyone was looking for one - we're trying the flex material one from old navy - 1/2 price on all swimwear right now.

My family have always been big lake/swimming people, and I know that two of my nephews that look after frequently on weekends have for a while now been wearing the liner-less swimsuits, but with a pair of kids swim 'jammers' underneath.

They're both on swim teams, and the jammers are sort of like tight fitting above-the-knee swim shorts. For swim team they wear them by themselves, but whenever we're at the lake or at the pool casually, they both wear them kind of as underwear under their usual swimsuits.

The boys I know, who are 11 and up all wear their swim trunks with their boxer brief underwear, yes, it seems weird, but they all do it. I see the waistband of the underwear when the trunks slide down. I think they wear it to keep their junk all together lol!!! Again, this is older boys.

We cut the mesh liner out as it gives both my older boys rashes from rubbing. They wear Nike compression type shorts under their swim trunks to help with chaffing.

We were at a neighbors pool party yesterday and her friends son was wearing board shorts and had a quite noticeable bump. I guess his didn't have a liner. I was seated having a conversation with him while he was standing about 4 ft away and it was hard to not notice. Surprised the Mom hasn't noticed/done something, but maybe the liners just bother him. He was probably about 13yo.
