    Default Which Tumeric supplement?

There are so many different options out there and I am trying to find one that people have had success with. Can anyone recommend one?

I am trying to reduce inflammation by taking tumeric. I have mixed connective tissue disease caused from an autoimmune issue possibly lupus.

    Thanks!

Turmeric works for inflamation only when heated (like putting it in heated oil) since it needs to be bio-available. It doesn't really work when taken as supplements. This is both from new research and coming from a culture where turmeric is used extensively.

So basically using it when preparing cooked food? Does it have a strong taste?

May I ask if there is a reason you are focusing on turmeric to reduce inflammation? I don't want to pry but with autoimmune issues sometimes a complete dietary overhaul is what is needed, not just one supplement. You may want to take a look at either the Perfect Health Diet (PHD) http://perfecthealthdiet.com/the-diet/ (basically paleo plus "safe starches" and some dairy allowed) or the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) https://www.thepaleomom.com/start-he...mune-protocol/ (a paleo elimination diet where you progressively add back foods to see which ones are problematic for you). I have a connective tissue autoimmune disease (Raynaud's - primary as far as they can tell) and I am finding the Perfect Health approach has really helped my symptoms, and i have a friend with another autoimmune disease who is finding great success with AIP. There are other similar approaches out there as well (Wahl's protocol, other autoimmune anti-inflammatory variations).

That is a very good point and I am going to read the book. There is a lot more I need to be doing including a better diet and exercise. I am currently taking Mobic for pain in my hands and lately it hasn't even been working. I am also taking plaquenil and I honestly don't want to be on either any more. How long did it take to see a difference when you changed your diet?

A friend of mine with an autoimmune disease was told by her specialist to take a curcumin supplement (ingredient in turmeric).

I believe she took this supplement but am not positive:

However please consult a doctor before taking because my friend was also told turmeric can increase bleeding and shouldn't be taken with several meds including advil and other pain meds.

The supplement she took helped her for years until finally it wasn't enough then she needed to go on Enbrel.

From what I've read, you'd have to eat a ton of turmeric in food to equal a supplement - and turmeric has a VERY strong flavor.

I have had great success with taking this one for OA. I take it twice a day, morning and mid-afternoon. When I forget to take it, my hip locks up and movement is painful.

For me, I changed my diet first unwittingly, and I was on a fairly strict ketogenic diet before, but I started eating "too many" carbs last fall then and stopped having Raynaud's attacks this past winter for the most part, after having them daily the previous 3 winters. But I didn't feel great otherwise and gained about 40 lbs. so now I am attempting the gluten-free/crap-free/paleo approach to feel better and lose the weight. I am not doing it perfectly yet, but I do feel better and still haven't had any attacks. I do still take one medication for symptom control but I am not sure if that is necessary now or not, as it didn't really help much before. My friend who is on the AIP noticed results fairly quickly, within a month or so, and she also had allergy testing and cut out some specific foods because of that. She is feeling a lot better overall now. But it is a journey and I don't believe there is one magic bullet (meaning I think you should try the turmeric if the doctor gives it the ok, but consider other dietary approaches as well).
