Default How about ideas for a dress for school auction...1920s theme?

I am feeling a bit boring or maybe overwhelmed...so I'd love to see what you can come up with

I'm tall and curvy (DDD on top) so nothing low cut, strapless, or off the shoulder. I'm too old to torture myself with strapless bras.

I have this dress (but in black), and it would probably be perfect except that I wore it last year, and I have been the co-chair both years so I am not exactly fading into the background as much as I would prefer to be the introverted wallflower that I truly am.

My older son's school has an auction too. Different people so I could probably wear the same dress and would actually prefer to, if I'm going to buy something new.

No real budget, but I'm not going to spend thousands on a dress.

It won't be Neiman quality but Amazon has a ton of cute options for that era. Modcloth and Anthrpologie sometimes have a few too.

I like this but you'd need at least a racer back or x back bra. https://www.amazon.com/Vijiv-Sequine...dp/B019I2ZJYW/

Wear the dress you already own with some long glitzy necklaces, metallic shoes with a T-strap detail, and a feathered or beaded hair accessory. You'll be the belle of the ball!

    This is possibly too short:

    or this:

The question is whether you want to look like you are going to a costume party or do a modern take on the 20s theme.

Our school auction had a 20s theme. People found flapper costumes from Amazon. I went to a retro resale shop in town and found a dress--it was black with lots of beading not tight at all. I found a necklace there and somewhere else I found a head band that I wore as a headpiece--like on my forehead parallel to my eyebrows.

Nordstrom has a couple brands that do some 20's inspired styles

    https://shop.nordstrom.com/sr?contex...pisarro+nights

    https://shop.nordstrom.com/sr?origin...eyword=komarov

I've seen the Komarov ones up on the rack's website

I bought a black velvet dress from unique vintage (https://www.unique-vintage.com/) last year for an event and have been pleased with it, but it definitely isn't a modern take. You can find them on amazon w/free returns, etc.

I’m reading with interest. I’ve been invited to a 20s theme party and was wondering the same thing, except I was hoping to use something I already had! It sounds like lace, sequin or fringe are all acceptable.

OP, I think you can wear the same dress with 20s themed accessories, like PP suggested. For a Charity auction, surely people won’t mind? Do You think they will remember?

So I thought I'd update that I'm going to try this one and see what I think.

Wanted to try this one, but it was on backorder and would be pushing it

Either way I'm going to wear a headband and art deco jewelry.

I have a couple of black dresses on order for the first event (DS1's school auction) just in case
