Default Professional help for picky eater?

I read the original post the day it was posted and have avoided this thread since then, it’s honestly too painful right now. OP, please trust your gut if you feel that this is not just a phase. Look into feeding therapy/feeding disorders at your local children’s hospital and talk with a psychologist/behavioral specialist as well. DD1 was admitted to the children’s hospital 4 days ago because of dehydration and to have a feeding tube placed...she has always been a picky eater/underweight/borderline FTT but things have gotten progressively worse the past several months. This is NOT a behavior issue, although behavior is certainly part of it. She is simply not hungry, rarely is, rarely ever has been, and has a limited number of foods she will eat. Trust your gut and push for evaluation if you feel it is warranted, and push hard if necessary. The sad thing is that now that DD has been admitted, she has been fast tracked to see a lot of the specialists I have been trying to coordinate for a while and who have months-long wait lists.

ETA: thank you to the other posters about restrictive food intake disorder/selective eating. This is similar to what we are dealing with. We have offered all her favorites and she has no interest, or consumes just a few bites before being finished. Even those foods we could previously rely on are no longer working.

I am so sorry and can feel your pain just a little bit in that my DD has been "threatened" with a ft in the past and was "ok" with it.
This is such a hard thing because there are a handful of things you just can't "make" your kid do... Eating is one of them.
I am so sorry you are going through this.

Wish eating issues in general were taken more seriously by pediatricians and others and not just lumped with picky eating / family eating habits.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. I didn’t mean to highjack the OP’s post. I just wanted to say that OP should trust her gut if she feels that this is more than picky eating. It’s so easy for people to say “oh, it’s just a phase” but sometimes it just isn’t a phase.
