We have one of those neighbors that reports people to city regard house/yard. Ironically he runs for the city government on platform of decreased government but is regular user of government enforcement for city regulations etc.
So today I see him and he asks when my dad is visiting next, strange as my dad hasn’t visited in 10 yrs because of health reasons. He then goes on to say my dad would fix the fence but he’s never seen my DH fix it, asking if DH isn’t handy. He’s not but I tell neighbor that DH works a lot and yes I know the fence needs to be replaced. It’s a 3’ high decorative split rail fence that you can’t really see much of because of plants. It doesn’t fence in the yard at all, it runs along the side of our yard but not the front or back. Yes part of the rails aren’t up because some posts have termite damage. DH did fix some by hammering metal stake into ground and attaching the post to the stake. It’s not going to get replaced anytime soon and technically it might be on city land (it’s a side lot, no sidewalk and we plant and irrigate right to the curb, fence is about 2.5’ in from the curb. )
Can this neighbor cause issues over this fence not being up for the entire length. I can try to patch it up (metal stakes to give posts support) or just take whole thing down until we can replace. I’d rather not take down so when replace, if issue with city we can say repairing existing fence rather than new fence. But part of me wants to leave it be to annoy the neighbor every time he drives by my house. The yard is well maintained so no issues there.
Crotchety old man that needs to leave people be.
