Default Ok, What Do I Wear?

I'm going to be a bridesmaid in a wedding in October. It's a daytime wedding (I think late morning or early afternoon), and the brides say I can wear whatever I want. The only required element of my outfit is the flat sneakers everyone in the wedding party will be wearing.

My usual preferred dress silhouette is a fit-and-flare that comes to right below my knee, but I have tree-trunk legs and if I'm wearing sneakers, I'm tempted to wear a maxi dress because I know the sneakers won't be flattering. But of course, most maxi dresses are either super-casual mumu-looking things (at least in plus sizes), or are formal evening gowns. I'd love to go formal, but it feels like that might be overdoing it for a daytime wedding.

    For example, is this ok?:

    Or something like this?

I adore this one, but it seems like it could be a little much:

    Thoughts? Advice?

Of those, only your 3rd would I consider for a daytime wedding but I wouldn’t choose it either. I’ll think on it but all of those are too dressy and, unless she said black, I would pick a color. The black (at least those) look way too dressy. What color are the sneakers?

Fellow plus size girl here who loves fit and flare. I understand where you’re coming from about your legs, but I totally agree that maxi dresses in plus size can be challenging. Honestly, I think the bride should give you all a little more direction. Or are you the only one?

I’m about to run out and can look a little bit more later, but what about this from Lane Bryant? I think it could be cute with purple sneakers. I think LB had been killing it with dresses for the past few months so I would take a quick peak through the line. I think a Short dress with sneakers might not look as bad as you think it would. I think could be cute .

I have this one in this color, but it was available in black at one time.

I think no 3 is perfect for a wedding. You can minimize the accessories. I would send it to her and ask if she’s OK with it, or coordinate with the other brides maids honestly. She’s trying to be nice but I think the bridesmaids should touch base and make sure they’re not all over the place in terms of formality/style eg you don’t want one bridesmaid in some of the print dresses upstream, someone else in a cotton broderie and someone else in an evening gown

Agreed. The options I linked to above definitely aren’t formal, but if someone tells me I’m wearing sneakers in a wedding, that’s where my mind goes to.

Also, since the brides are requesting sneakers, I think they might want you to wear a dress where you can actually see the sneakers. I’ve seen photo galleries of bridesmaids wearing cowboy boots, and the dresses are short enough for you to see that.

Do you know what the brides will be wearing? What is the length of their dresses? Or are they even wearing dresses? A maxi dress might be too much regardless if they are wearing knee-length dresses.

They have purple shoes but didn't give any guidance for a color scheme? Interesting.
