    Default Kids alarm clocks

The kids have been using LEGO alarm clocks, but DD (8) wants a new one. She saw one that has nature sounds at Costco, and likes the idea of waking up to soothing sounds instead of a loud blaring beep. DD (12) has a Dot, but I’m not sure that would work for younger DD. Any recommendations?

My kids got these for Christmas. They love seeing the time on the ceiling at night.

I thought I read that NIST funding was on the chopping block again - I'd look into that before buying a self-setting clock that depends on it......NIST runs the radio stations/atomic clocks that send out the official time to all sorts of devices.

    Oh, thanks for that.

DD2 (8 yrs) decided on this one, because it's battery operated (she's in a bunk bed), she liked the color, and it has nature sounds.

DD3 (12 yrs) decided on this one because she considerably more fashionable. Ironically, she overslept this morning because she forgot to set her lego AND her dot alarms.

I told them that they could put the Oregon Scientific ones on their Christmas lists if the NIST funding hasn't been chopped.

I think their budget is threatened periodically, but has always been saved before - hard to say what will happen this time. Which is weird because there is a lot of time-driven technology that depends on it still.

One would hope that clocks using it would have a way to set them just in case, as a backup - no idea there - it would probably be buried deep in an instruction manual, I would guess.

My husband's clock is one that switched automatically on daylight savings time days - until they switched the day it took effect some time ago - it still switches on the OLD schedule. It is a huge pain to remember to deal with - I wish he'd just replace it!

Off to go check out clocks - we need a new one, as well, for DD1.
