Default Need help buying SKIS for my 13 yr. old son!!

My son would like some skis for his birthday.

He is 5'3" tall and he weighs 110 pounds.

He wants the skis for downhill and park.

He joined the Ski & Snowboard Club last winter and he went skiing every week for the entire season. He fell in love with skiing.
This year, he would like to have his own skis instead of renting each week.

    What do you suggest???

There are stores around here with a swap program. You pay some amount and get skis to use for the season. You turn them in in the spring and get a credit. This might be nice for another year or two since he is still growing.

You want junior skis or even women’s skis. He isn’t big enough to muscle men’s skis yet

I would do a seasonal rental - with ours, when the feet grow, they just swap out the boot or even the skis. Around here at least, the rental stuff is really good stuff.

I'd say either seasonal rental or a swap program is your best bet. And you'll need to take him with you to get them. There's no "ta-da" here are your new boots and skis wrapped up (unless you know exactly what he fits and would love from renting over and over and then buy the exact same thing). He needs an experienced boot fitter and someone who can recommend type of ski for his height/weight and ski style.

Our local mountain has a sale every October of used skis and boots. Our kids have been skiing the past 3 seasons. We buy a used set for under $100 each year. I wonder if there’s something similar. They also sell new equipment at a discount too.
