Default What fun thing to do in old fireplace hole?

We took out our fireplace. The original plan was to go from wood to electric, but now we realize having electric in a cabinet that can be moved would be better than where it was. So now we have a hole in the wall and a space about 50" wide and 24" deep. We can just add framing and drywall, but we think maybe it would be fun to have a secret storage area! We want it flat so furniture can be in front of it, so no book cases. If DD still did AG dolls, we'd totally make it a doll house! But any fun ideas?

I don’t have any ideas but my youngest would be over the moon if he had it as a cozy cave space. He has asked for years to have our contractor install a secret door and room in our house. We have a cupboard under the stairs for him but the door is obvious and doesn’t check the secret hideout box.

Lots of people put plants or candle displays in their unused fireplaces.

My first thought was a Harry Potter-ish cupboard under the stairs type thing.

We're a realtor family, and I've seen a brick fireplace area converted to a dog area... very cool in summer and they put a dog bed in it in the winter.

The fireplace is gone. Torn out . Chimney pipe is gone. We have a hole in the wall with subfloor and walls of insulation right now. I think we are going to put up drywall inside and run the flooring into it and make it a storage area. With a door most likely.
