This summer, I decided to go back to school to pick up an Accounting degree. I already have a Bachelors in another field, so I am taking as many classes as I can at a local community college before transferring to the local State University. I am taking 3 - 3 hour courses - all online this semester. I am also working as a substitute teacher so that I can have a flexible schedule to complete my coursework. I have been setting aside one weekday each week for my coursework and have time to study on the weekends as well.
My beef is with my accounting instructor who has:
(1) not answered even one of my emails,
(2) posts several short (less than 5 minutes each) Youtube lectures each week of a different instructor that has lots of misstatements and whiteboard errors AND chapter number/titles that don't correspond with the current order of our textbook,
(3) included a spreadsheet for us to download as part of a posted assignment that had all sorts of issues - multiple formatting issues (number cells formatted as text) - there were no instructions or guidance on what or how or if we were supposed to resubmit it as part of the assignment
(4) there is a section of our "online classroom" for discussion but she seems to only respond sporadically and not completely
(5) releases assignments at 11:59 pm each Sunday, so there is no way to work ahead if I need to because of scheduling issues.
(6) Conversely, sends out an announcement at 6 pm on Sunday, that seems to be her response to any emails or questions that come her way during the week (with 5 hours left to assignment deadlines),
(7) Her announcements are incredibly passive aggressive :"I have received a few emails about the spreadsheet in Continuing Problem Chapter 2. I have attached the file to this announcement. That spreadsheet is for your use - It helps with the journalization and ledger work as you go from chapter to chapter. I am not sure what is confusing some students it just a starting point for your own use. It helps as the problem builds - I attached the file to make it easier for you to use. " -If the bolded portion had been part of the assignment instructions, I wouldn't have even needed to email her except that the file is not formatted for numbers,
(8) Has her announcements set so that you can't respond in any way.
Anyway, I have already started composing my end of course evaluation in my head, but are my expectations unrealistic? My other courses are set up that I can work through them at my own pace and the instructors have been very responsive.
