    Default La Jolla Hotel Help

We will be heading to a swim meet at UCSD this summer. We're staying in the area for 6 or 7 days. We haven't decided yet if we want to stay in that area the whole time or spend a day or two down near Coronado so haven't decided yet how many days to book in one hotel. We do know we want to stay near the pool though so that we don't have to worry about getting up too early for the days of the meet. Because of DS's food allergies and the fact that he wants to eat healthier and not at restaurants while he's swimming, we need a hotel with a kitchen. I've found a few options, all with both positive and negative reviews, and was hoping those from the area could maybe weigh in on what you think is the best option. I don't know if there are bad areas we want to avoid, etc.

These are all in a very safe area, nothing to worry about nearby except the traffic. The Marriott will be quickest, you will be shocked at the amount of traffic in that area if you aren't from Southern CA or other areas with traffic woes. The area is one of the most wealthy areas in the state. I'd stay in Coronado when he's not swimming.

Agree that the Residence Inn is likely going to be the best in proximity to UCSD. We stay in the area to visit friends a few times/year and we tend to avoid the La Jolla beach area in the summer due to the crowds and difficulty driving around the area. We tend to stay around the Torrey Pines and UCSD areas. We’ve tried out most of the bigger Marriott properties and like the Sheraton and the Marriott Del Mar the best. Neither have kitchens like the Residence Inn, so if that is a priority, then I’d book it. The Marriott Del Mar (we’re actually there now ) may be a bit further away than you’d like.

    Default La Jolla Hotel Help

I would look at hotels in Sorrento Valley which is a little north of La Jolla. There is a Residence Inn, and a Homewood Suites there (I believe they both have Sorrento Valley in the hotel name). It is a business park area but the hotel rates have been cheaper than La Jolla. Between myself and DH we have stayed at both. The Marriott link didn’t take me to a specific hotel so I am not sure which one you are taking about. There is also an Embassy Suites in La Jolla near UTC. I would also look at VRBO, or AirBNB. We stayed in Pacific Beach last year and I really liked the location and the rental we stayed at (PB is just south of La Jolla but will be opposite of traffic to get to La Jolla).
