Miami?

Looks like we’ll be in Miami this summer. Original plan was to head out of town as soon as we arrive but our flight has been moved to an early morning direct flight. Thinking we should go ahead and rent a car so we have somewhere to keep our stuff. Will we be able to sightsee without a car? Is there somewhere we can store our luggage while we tour around? Any favorite sights / restaurants? TIA

ETA - Does the ability to request a different flight due to flight change apply if we’re flying on miles?
