Bumper Pad Ties

I am having a problem tying my bumper pad onto my crib because the crib slats are wide. I was thinking of putting velcro on the ties so they could just wrap around and fasten. Does anyone have other suggestions? I know I can live without the bumper, but I feel more comfortable having it there. Thanks for your help!
