Default Car tires- did I do something wrong?

Car needed new tires today to pass inspection. It's a 2010 Mazda5 and the car has 22000 miles on it. Shouldn't I have gotten more use than that out of them?

Depends on the quality. Do you know the speed rating?

Umm, I have just over thirty thousand miles on my 2005 Forester and am on my second set of replacement tires. Of course, I live in SF and end up deliberately going over curbs to park sometimes. . . .

If they were original tyres than probably not the best. I have better tyres on now and make sure they get rotated so even wear as they cost a lot and want to get most lifetime out of them.

Car manufacturers notoriously put low milage tires on brand new cars to so the test drives are the best they can possibly be. They wear out very very quickly (usually <30,000 miles). I doubt you did anything wrong. Did you rotate them every (or every other) oil change?

We got 23,000 out of the stock Bridgestone Turanzas on my wife's 2008 Toyota Sienna and that was rotating them every 5k miles. I got 25,000 out of my Bridgestone Duelers (that i paid $226/each for) on my old Yukon also doing 5k rotations. Crappy enough imo that I'm all done with Bridgestone now.

Got Michelin Hydroedges for the Sienna that seem to be doing MUCH better after 13,000 miles already than the old Bridgestones ever did (supposedly they're good for 70,000 miles - we shall see about that!) My Yukon is now gone but I had put cheap Dayton Timberlines on it before I got rid of it and they did better too (even though Dayton, Firestone & Bridgestone are the same company).

My new truck has Pirelli Scorpions and I'm not reading favorable things about them. I may go with Cooper or BF Goodrich when the Pirellis are done as they seem to get favorable reviews.

Both www.tirerack.com and www.discounttiredirect.com have good prices and are good sources for reviews of the various brands they sell.

I have a 2011 Toyota Camry SE and recently had two tires with nails that were in the sidewall so they could not be repaired. When I inquired about replacing the tires I learned that they were only 20,000 mile tires. I was pissed, considering the car at the time was only 6 months old and I bought it brand spankin' new. I will pay better attention to the tires next time I buy a car. I wonder if this practice is being done more without the consumer realizing.

I have a 2009 Mazda5 and need 3 new tires right now (one was replaced a few months ago after a nail pierced the side). I "think" we have 35,000 miles on it.

As much as I hated my Goodyear tires that came on my Pilot I got about 50,000 or so miles out of them, so for me that was just under 3 yrs. . I just replaced that second set of tires (those were Falkens, and they were pretty good) with some Sumitomo Tires (my tires are exclusive to Big O, Tire Kingdom, etc., bought two got two free; but Sumitomos are sold lots of places) that have 65,000 mile tread ratings. I am very happy with my Sumitomos.

Both my DH and I as well as my parents have always had good luck with Big O Brand tires which are made by Cooper. I am really happy with my Sumitomos so far though and thankfully the Big O Tire guys know us by name (as they also do our oil changes and have done mechanical work on our cars) that they treat us well and give us lots of discounts so we don't pay full retail for anything there, but not all of them are like that.

A friend of mine who knew someone who worked at Lexus dealer (this was a good 10 yrs. ago) told her that the dealers do not fill the tires all of the way because it gives them a softer ride during a test drive, so if you buy a car not realizing this and you drive around for say 5,000 on unproperly inflated tires it will or can cause uneven wear, but yeah I would not be surprised that car manufacturers don't put the best tires on their cars.
