Too far north and it would be close to the new IKEA in Metro Detroit.

Let's hope they pick Columbus so we can meet in the middle :)

That is what I was thinking too, Hez! If it is too close to me then I think I might shop there too much anyway. ;)
I don't think they will pick Clev. just because of the Canton MI store and the Pittsburgh, PA store being 4 hours away each. Col. is father from both of those. Regardless it would be nice to have one with in a couple hours drive!! Check your geography - it is almost exactly 3 hours from Columbus to the Pittsburgh IKEA. :-)
That makes me wonder if they will go for the west side of Columbus - to get Dayton/Springfield and Cincinnati as well as Indianapolis. Even if it is three hours from Indy (same as to Chicago) more people would go to OH because of less traffic. Of course if you put it in Cincy, you have Louiville, Indy and Lexington all less than 2 hours away.... I can see why they are having a hard time.

I was just visiting my in-laws who live in Canton so I finally got the check out the wonder that is IKEA. Apparently on opening day people had been lined up days in advance to get in (I think they were giving away free chairs to the first however many people). The township tripled the police force to deal with all the extra traffic. There is a satellite parking lot for overflows and a shuttle to bring you to the main store.
So needless to say, my expectations were pretty high. I must admit, it was a very cool store, although most of the stuff was a bit too contemporary for my taste. I liked the little accessories and knick knacks -and good lord, those prices! I did love the kids play area - but (no flames) I knowingly sent DS in there with his diaper on (policy is only kids who are potty trained can go in, no diapers allowed - for those unfamiliar, you drop the kids off for 45 mins and get a beeper, it is completely secure and monitored). Apparently they showed DS where the bathroom was so he took it upon himself to splash around in the sink. He was SOAKING wet when I picked him up - that's what I get, right? THank goodness next time we'll be there to visit he'll be potty-trained.
