DS1's Mythbusters party was 2 weeks ago. I thought I'd share what we ended up doing because a few mentioned they might do it down the road.
Overall, it went really well. I needed a bit more time though! The party was 12-2:30. It was supposed to be 1-3:30 and not include lunch, but one boy had to leave at 2:30, so we shifted it up and I added lunch. There were 4 boys total, including DS1. Everyone arrived on time. We explained the show to the one who had never seen it before. We had safety glasses for all the kids. We did the following: Can a piece of paper be folded more than 7 times? - We explained taht we'd heard it wasn't possible to do and gave them regular copy paper to try. We then tried with 12x12 scrap book paper. We then used a large sheet of newspaper roll. They had fun trying to figure out if bigger would help. Do Wint O Green Lifesavers spark when you bite them? - we had them all up in the bathroom in the dark trying to see sparks. We then got a hammer out and smashed some in the dark (hard to do, really). They had a fun time though. One boy did not like the taste, so having the sink to spit it in was good .Will a hot dog explode on the grill if you don't put little slices in it? DH did all the grill work . We did a cut hot dog and regular and put it on. We then moved on to the next myth while it cooked and just checked on it every 5 minutes or so.Do Pop Rocks and soda make your stomach explode? They first tried just pop rocks in their mouth and then added Sierra Mist. It was a bit messy, but they had fun. Does butter toast always fall buttered side down? We had 1 loaf of breaded toasted and buttered. They had tongs, plates, a table, and a white board. They figured out what they wanted to do and took the data. It wasn't the best experiment and they seemed a bit bored. Can you walk in a straight line, while blindfolded, if you're dizzy? We used a jump rope to mark the start line. We put a hula hoop about 25 feet away as a target. First, we blindfolded each kid and pointed them in the right direction and when they were even with the hula hoop, we measured how far away they were. Then, we spun each kid around 10 times and pointed them again. It was hilarious! Lunch break and presents Will a marshmallow explode in the microwave? We tried for various times, added more than 1 marshamallow, etc. Will a boat made of duct tape float? We gave them a roll of duct tape and a pair of scissors each. They had a box that they had to make their boat fit into (size restriction). They had 20 minutes to build. We used a kiddie pool and loaded them up with quarters to see how much they held before sinking. This was a huge hit and they loved it. Do Mentos and diet Coke explode? Clearly the highlight of the party! We did it first with a small diet Coke and 1 Mentos. We worked up to a 2l of diet Coke and 4 Mentos. At one point, they each had their own 24 oz and Mentos to try. Loved it! Very fun. Does duct tape glow in the dark? Stick it to itself and slowly pull it apart in a dark room. This was a last minute addition and we did it as parents arrived to pick up the boys. Then we realized - Cake! We had totally run out of time. One got cake to go and the others were able to stay a few more minutes. It was a great party. It was busy. I am very glad my mom took my other kids away. It would have been very difficult to have the younger ones here. I am also glad DH was here as we were able to alternate who was in charge to keep it moving. Our party favors: a roll of gold duct tape a roll of Mentos a small diet Coke fake mustaches safety glasses I warned the parents about the Mentos and diet Coke being in the bags. I told them the boys might enjoy showing the family how it explodes and they thought it was great. If we didn't break for lunch, 2.5 hours would have been just enough. Three hours is much better.

Wow, thanks for posting about your son's party! It sounds like something both of my older boys would love as a bday party theme!
