Default 102.4 degree fever in a 2 YO w/ no other symptoms? UPDATE in #1

I can't figure out what's wrong with my little one. She felt warm to me this morning when I woke up and I took her temp at 8 AM and it was 101.4. I let her run it for a few hours and she sat in my lap all morning watching Blue's Clues. At around 11 I gave her motrin. As soon as it kicked in, she ate lunch (she didn't want breakfast) and was running around until 4. At 4:30 she dropped. I gave her more motrin and she perked back up until 7:30 when her fever went back up to 102.4.

She's been complaining that her knee hurts (same leg that she broke almost 2 months ago) and her bum every now and then. She also doesn't want me to take her temp in her right ear. I think she's just achy from the fever, but I'm not sure WHY she's running a fever that high. Too high for teeth.

Any insight? Should I take her in to the doctor tomorrow before the weekend gets started?

UPDATE:
After 18 hours fever free, her fever return last night. I gave her motrin and she woke up this morning around 8 and it was still right around 101. I have let her run it all day because she's been acting fine, but she was feeling warmer so I took it rectally and it was 102. So I guess I'll take her in to urgent care. Anyone want to put in bets as to what it is?

Get her checked for an ear infection. Very possible.

My ds2 ran a high fever, no symptoms, for 3 days then got a horrific sore throat, no fever, day 4-6. Ped called it a summer virus.

Does she have any rashes? Hand, foot, mouth disease seems to be common in a lot of areas right now.

Roseola is also a possibility.

I'd see how your night goes and possibly call your doctor in the morning for an opinion. At our house ear infections are usually accompanied by really cruddy sleep because of the increased ear pressure while laying down. Depending on how the night goes if I had good weekend urgent care options I'd wait it out, otherwise might try to be seen.

Hope she feels better soon!

Nope, no rash at all. We haven't been anywhere since Sunday either for her to be exposed to anything and my older 2 are out of school.

Happened to us just last week actually. No other symptoms. We just treated with motrin/tylenol and let it pass. If your DD were just feverish, I'd say to just let her body do the work and wait it out, but since she's reluctant to let you check her ear, she may have an infection there as PPs mentioned. I think that'd warrant a trip to the ped just in case.

Thanks everyone. I HAVE to go out of town by next Tuesday so I'll probably take her in tomorrow to make sure it's not her ears.

This happened to my 5 year old DS over the holiday weekend. He was fine all day and spiked a 102-103 temp at night. I took him in Tuesday and he had Strep. He never complained about a sore throat.

She slept for 6 hours and woke up just barely warm. I went ahead and gave her another dose and will call the doc at 8 to try and get her in just to rule things out. I wouldn't be if it wasn't Friday but I'm supposed to leave Sunday and need to make sure she's healthy!

DD2 had this a few weeks ago. Fever, no other symptoms except maybe she was a little less energetic than usual. We treated with tylenol, but otherwise rode it out. The fever ran for 4 or 5 days, then went away.
