Default Anti-B regarding retard

Today I read letters written by DS1's classmates. I am so happy to see what they wrote. One wrote "just because you are different doesn't mean your mean". Thank goodness that mainstreaming is taking place the public school classrooms. These kids are learning that someone with a disability is just like them. Though I just can't stop smiling as pretty much all of them said he was a good listener. The kid can't talk. So yeah he just sits there as they talk and talk and talk.

This gives me such hope after the lousy retard post earlier!

Love the "good listener" comments. What a positive follow up to your previous post.

Yay! I'm glad you guys are benefiting from mainstreaming- I teac at a fully mainstreamed high school and the attitude the students have towards our special ed population is so accepting and supportive, it really makes a huge difference.

Wonderful! Having the kids being so accepting and willing to see the good attributes helps so much.

How DD is received by her classmates is very important to me and I always ask about it in parent/teacher conferences. So far, I have always gotten "she's well liked", "the kids enjoy helping her", etc.

Excuse me, are you in a play?

Years ago I had a little guy in my fourth grade class who had special needs. He had his own one on one aide. He had been with this same group of children since kindergarten. The teachers in those early grades did such a great job with all of these children. They were so protective of him and loving toward him. It makes my heart smile just to think about it. I'm glad your son is surrounded by loving children as well!
